“Our job is not to deny the story, but to defy the ending—to rise strong, recognize our story, and rumble with the truth until we get to a place where we think, Yes. This is what happened. And I will choose how the story ends.”- Brene Brown

At the age of 16, I entered the workforce and immediately started saving my money. Even at this early age, I realized the importance of accumulating money and the freedom it gave me to do the things I wanted. By the time I finished graduate school I had financed two trips to Europe and paid cash for my first car. While my savings provided many wonderful opportunities, I didn’t realize how my understanding of money and my ability to invest would have such a tremendous impact on my life until things didn’t go quite as planned.

I entered the corporate world with IBM, where I spent the next 20 years. During this time, I experienced 2 careers changes, 3 marriages, 3 divorces, and 4 geographic moves. My life was a series of transitions. Little did I know that in 2008 I would face the biggest financial challenge when I lost my job and was unemployed for 2 years. Although this was difficult, it could have been devastating.

Each time a change occurred in my life I was able to manage these life-altering challenges simply because I understood what I had and how to manage my money. This gave me greater confidence during these transitional times.

Confidence that my friends did not have.

I watched my friends go through similar experiences.

But, because they didn’t understand their financial affairs these transitional events became life-changing, and not for the better. That’s when I realized my true calling in life.

As a financial advisor, I wanted to create an environment that encouraged every woman to get their financial house in order. I wanted women to be able to make decisions from a place of strength and not fear. I wanted women to feel they could move forward with confidence in a more optimistic and positive way so that they could choose their destiny and not be a victim of circumstance.

What’s the most likely place people could find you on a Friday night?

At home cooking dinner with my life partner, my step-daughter, and her daughter.

Which would you pick: Living on the Beach or living near the mountains?

Living on the beach would be my first choice. There is something very calming about water. Since I lived in Boulder CO and already had my mountain experience, I would choose living on the beach.

Imagine being approached by a genie who offers you 3 wishes. What might those be?

Good health because it is so essential to do everything in life.

Happiness because a positive outlook on life is so important

Enough wealth to afford the lifestyle I want to live.

What drives you to do the work you do?

I want to be a mentor/guide for women going through major life changes – the death of a loved one, divorce, and sudden inheritance are just a few. I want to help them gain knowledge in areas they may not have access to. I want to make sure they are on a good financial path for the next chapter of their life.
